With a big family, eating out can be a major expense. This is an old fashioned recipe that isn't seen or heard of much lately. You may also run them through the dishwasher. This year, if Dunn and Patton wait for the U-Pick tomatoes, they will need only to buy new lids (under $10) and rent a Zipcar (under $30). A safer method would be to can the filling (apples or other fruit, sugar and spice) using the apple pie filling directions (with or without addition of the Clear-gel starch; you can always add the starch later) and simply add the flour, butter, starch and other ingredients and bake the cobble at the time you want to consume it!

Dad brought home a live chicken to have us learn how to ‘dispatch and prepare’ one… and yes, a chicken sans head DOES run round the yard, tripping and tumbling and then back up and running… until it runs out of blood.) I have had an empty spot for that old cookbook for decades. I used very inexpensive Cabernet Sauvignon. Earlier this summer I noticed the apple trees in Mary and Clate's yard were loaded. This year, her grandchildren even invented a vat with a mechanical spigot to expedite the decanting process (and avoid some burned fingers).
