For most of its history the Columbia Branch was operated under the control of the Wabash Railroad. Jupiter was commissioned on March 20, 1869. The closets, however, are of the high flush tank pattern and urinals are provided with automatic flushing apparatus. A man named Austin Corbin was installed as president of the company and the company was turned around into a profitable entity. Post-WWII, the New Haven saw a bit of an upturn and emerged from bankruptcy. I sometimes think of the past as I am biking, and remember that this is the same road that made the Miami Valley so prosperous. Towards the end of the depression the pressure of new settlement forced the Santa Fe to extend down the Walnut Valley from Florence to El Dorado, the first of the numerous feeders with which it protected its territory. Despite the carnage brought by the war the railroad further proved its worth as a reliable and efficient means of moving people and material.
